Browsing and Managing Notes

After recording meetings with Caret, you can easily browse, search, and organize your notes. This guide will show you how to navigate the Caret notes interface and find the information you need.

Accessing Your Notes

You can access your notes in two ways:

Desktop App

Click on the Caret icon in your menu bar and select “Open Caret” to launch the full application interface.

Web App

Visit your workspace URL (e.g., yourcompany.caret.so) and log in to access your notes from any browser.

Notes Dashboard

The Notes Dashboard is your central hub for viewing and managing all your meeting notes.

Key elements of the dashboard include:

  1. Left Sidebar: Navigation and workspace selection
  2. Notes List: Center view showing all your notes
  3. Filters Panel: Right sidebar for filtering and sorting notes
  4. Search Bar: Top-center search functionality

Browsing Notes

Recent Notes

By default, your dashboard shows recent notes in chronological order with the most recent at the top.

Each note card displays:

  • Meeting title
  • Date and time
  • Duration
  • Key participants
  • Tags
  • Preview of content

Filtering Notes

Use the filters panel on the right to narrow down your notes:

Open Filters

Click the “Filters” button in the top-right corner of the notes list.

Select filters

Apply any combination of the following filters:

  • Date Range: Filter by time period (Today, This Week, This Month, Custom Range)
  • Tags: Filter by specific tags
  • Participants: Filter by meeting participants
  • Meeting Type: Filter by call type (online, in-person, podcast)
  • Created By: Filter by the team member who recorded the meeting

Apply filters

The notes list will update automatically as you select filters.

To clear all filters, click “Clear Filters” at the bottom of the panel.

Sorting Notes

Click the “Sort” dropdown at the top of the notes list to change the sorting order:

  • Most Recent: Notes sorted by creation date (newest first)
  • Oldest: Notes sorted by creation date (oldest first)
  • Alphabetical (A-Z): Notes sorted by title alphabetically
  • Longest Duration: Notes sorted by meeting length (longest first)
  • Shortest Duration: Notes sorted by meeting length (shortest first)

Organizing with Tags

Tags help you categorize your notes for easier retrieval:

View by tag

Click on any tag in the filters panel to see only notes with that tag.

Add tags to a note

  1. Open a note by clicking on it
  2. Click the ”+ Tag” button below the title
  3. Select an existing tag or create a new one
  4. Click “Apply” to save

Manage tags

To manage all available tags:

  1. Go to Workspace Settings
  2. Select “Tags” from the sidebar
  3. Create, edit, or delete tags as needed

Searching Notes

The search functionality in Caret is powerful and can find content across all your notes.

Use the search bar

Click on the search bar at the top of the dashboard and enter your search terms.

View search results

Results will display in real-time as you type, highlighting the matching content.

Search works across:

  • Note titles
  • Transcription content
  • Speaker names
  • Tags
  • AI-generated summaries

Advanced search

Use search operators for more precise results:

  • "exact phrase": Find an exact phrase
  • from:name: Find notes with contributions from a specific person
  • tag:name: Find notes with a specific tag
  • after:YYYY-MM-DD: Find notes after a specific date
  • before:YYYY-MM-DD: Find notes before a specific date

Note Actions

For each note in the list, you can perform several actions:

Folder Organization

Caret allows you to organize notes into folders for better management:

Create a folder

  1. Click “New Folder” in the left sidebar
  2. Enter a name for your folder
  3. Click “Create”

Move notes to a folder

  1. Select one or more notes by checking the box in the top-left corner of each note card
  2. Click “Move to” in the action bar that appears
  3. Select the destination folder
  4. Click “Move”

Navigate folders

Click on any folder in the left sidebar to view only the notes in that folder.

Use the breadcrumb navigation at the top to return to previous views.
