# Security & Privacy

> How Caret protects your data and privacy.

Security is fundamental to Caret. We provide granular controls to ensure your conversations remain private and secure.

## Data Protection

### No AI Training

Your data is yours. Caret **never** uses your transcripts, audio, or company info to train our global AI models. Data is only used for your specific workspace.

### Encryption

* **In Transit**: Transmitted using TLS 1.2+.
* **At Rest**: Sensitive data is encrypted using industry-standard AES-256.

## Recording Controls

### Audio Toggle

Enable or disable audio recording for your workspace. If disabled, Caret still provides real-time suggestions via live transcription but won't save audio files.

### Storage Location

* **Cloud Storage**: Audio is processed and stored on our secure servers for playback and team sharing.
* **Local Storage**: Audio is processed on your device and never uploaded to our servers.

  Local storage offers maximum privacy but limits sharing and multi-device

## Privacy Preferences

### Meeting Permissions

Set default visibility for new recordings:

* **Private**: Only the creator can view.
* **Workspace**: All workspace members can view.
* **Public**: Anyone with the link can view.

### Data Retention

Automatically purge old data to match your policies. Options include:

* Never (Default)
* 7, 30, 90, 180, or 365 days.

  Deleted data via retention policies is permanent and cannot be recovered.
